Mega Man Tribute Art Book Premier: Yoroshikudesu :D

Hello!

Earlier this year I drew these two illustrations to celebrate Capcom's own Mega Man's birthday.

Mega man too was born in 1987 the year of the Rabbit :)

I am really happy that I could contribute as I have fond childhood memories of playing Rock Man or more so watching my brother play, as I never got that far.

When I showed this to my brother and his reaction was :

"..... that has nothing to do with Rock Man."

M: "I didn't draw Rock Man... but I drew Cut man!! and Roll and Rock Man is in the doily lace see?! :D... "

Brother: "..."

M: "...."

I love you brother :D !!!!

Also here is the second one. My take on Splash Woman the robotic mermaid songstress with helmet off. (As I have never seen her with out it :D)

2011 year of the Rabbit, Samurai Heart; Hope for Japan Sneaker design

Hello and hisashiburi,

I can't believe it is already July. My last post was a Christmas post! I've missed you! *Leap hug*

2011 is the year of the rabbit, the same as 1987 the year I was born in.

Chinese zodiac may not mean much here in Australia, but personally I was jumping around and ready to soak up this once in a 12 year occasion. ... not sure how, but I was excited.

Here is a quick dribble scribble of how 2011 started off for me.

Ironically these events became inspiration. The strength displayed by the people who were affected and how people around the world worked as one to aid these areas.

At the time, Foot Locker was holding a sneaker art competition, so I tried to channel some of that inspiration and contribute. Here is my entry, Samurai Heart: Hope for Japan design.

In other news, I have received an art grant to start a personal project. I'll be starting it next week! More about it soon :)

Hi blog,

Wow, I didn't even realise but it has been some time...
Adelaide is finally... FINALLY shedding it's winter coat and feeling a little bit of that sunshine.
Now I can start crawling out of hibernation for soon-to-be ice-cream season :)

Currently doing an illustration gig, which has been a wonderful experience.
Hopefully I will be able to put up some samples when some time passes.

I recently did a trip to Melbourne for Semi-P and Tim Burton exhibition and I also got to catch up with some awesome pe-po. ;) While we were there we also discovered the Lindt cafe which I highly recommend to any chocolate/cake/macaron lover. The trip was a fantastic way to feel inspired, refreshed and macaron content.

Hallo~ Blog >v<

While I was up in Brisbane I went to a friend's wedding :) She was the first out of my friends to get married. It was an extravagant wedding; cultural fusion, beautiful bride, dashing groom, beautiful flower arrangements (by the bride herself), seafood buffet >v<, cake buffet, and I am so glad I was able to be a part of this momentous occasion.

She is an intelligent, beautiful, unique and vibrant person who constantly inspires me.
So I made her this :)

Hallo & Tadaima :>

Yay I'm back from Japan. It was a very awesome trip. It was only for 10 days this time, but it felt surprising long; like four weeks instead. It was with 7 other people, but they seemed to really enjoy it too. YAY! A whole lot of art book, animation book, clothes shopping, eating so on and so forth. But it was sad because no one joined me for some public bath action because no one was too keen on the idea. Boo~ Poo~ (Even though the group consisted of 6 guys and 2 girls; I wanted them to experience how good Japanese baths are. Ah well, I certainly enjoyed it on my own. Nyahahaaaaha)

On another note, my Darkstalkers Tribute book came (/T^T)/ !!!!
It's hard cover and everything *cries*
And yes, it is my first published artwork (>///<)
It's got a whole lot of amazing artwork and feel really honored to be a part of it.
I recommend it to any big Darkstalkers fans out there or even to anyone that loves vampirey, monstery stuff :) Totes worth it :)

I'm sure many of you have seen this already but I will put up the piece that got in :)

Hi blogger world!

It has certainly been a while.

Things that have been different since the last blog posts, is that I am currently working as a 3D animator on the same project at Vishus. I am animating human characters, they are the most awesome rigs and finding everyday really fulfilling :D The voice actors are amazing so it really makes my job really fun and also a challenge to make them alive as their voices :) The project is coming along and I can't wait to see the finished product.

Illustration wise, I had a sudden thought and then it ended up being an illustration set.

Umeboshi is actually the name of a pickled plum, but "boshi" also means star.

Panda ko mako PANDA ☆

Hello :)

Just a quick update. The commercial I was working on at the PRA; a while back now will be screening on TV from today. It's for the Adelaide airport; a campaign for the Panda's that are coming to Adelaide zoo. My role was animating Pandas! YAY! (I animated more but it had to get cut off so I hope I can put up a long version up in future :) ) Also did a lot of cleanup and shadow work on it.

I just came home from watching The Young Victoria at the cinemas :) It was light, pleasant and the production design was fantastic; made me want to draw princesses. Oh how I love period pieces ^^ Emily Blunt was really pretty, but Rupert Friend as Albert was prettier :) <3>

I can't express how much I wish there were more girls in this industry ><
I don't have a problem with guys; it's just.... it's different and everything needs a BALANCE :) Just someone to get all excited over amazing transformation sequences in girly anime and over cake and coffee rather than a discussion about who killed the most or whatever in the last game of Left for Dead. I'm sure if it was the opposite situation people would feel the same way.

BUT! I had a girly date the other day. In a cute cafe, over gingerbread hot chocolate, and it was most refreshing. My head was exploding with ribbons and prism power~~~~!! :) Mum, Dad ... Thanks for making me a girl. I will forever be a girly girl with pride, ohohohooo~.

I am having fun at work and it seems to be getting more and more busy.
Have to become an expert time management person to fit everything in 0_0!

And in other news, Japanese election, opposition party won. I hope this means things will start changing over there. Ie. Crazy work conditions, family benefits. Because I know it effects so many people I know over there. It will be really interesting to see the results since it has been the same for such a long time. Muni muni~ save the Maruru~. Hi blogging world :D

It has been some time! I have some time right now so I will update :D

I'm back from an epic adventure in France. (Quite a while ago now but... ) A week in the world's most adorable village, Annecy home to an amazing animation festival and another in the massive city of Paris.

Annecy was amazing. The energy of the festival was really something.
I was really lucky to be a part of the festival this year because there were so much fresh and inspiring animation. This includes Henry Selick's new feature, (the lovely man that brought to you Nightmare before Christmas, James and the Giant Peach etc.) Coraline; a thoroughly enjoyable experience. We were also fortunate enough to see The Secret of Kells by rising star Tomm Moore :D and many more! Thoroughly recommend them both.

But now that I am back, I am keeping busy. Have been doing some illustration work and
I have started working at Vishus Productions as a texture artist, another animation studio in Adelaide. I was also back at the PRA for a couple of weeks for a commercial which should screen on TV soon. It has been busy but everything seems to be going smoothly, which is nice :)

Annecy Animation Festival & Darkstalkers Tribute!

Hallo~~ bloggers~~!!

Well the last few days have been crazy! Filled with so much good news!!
On Friday we found out that Cat Piano got into Annecy International Animation Festival! Go Cat Piano team!! All I can say is that the team worked really hard so I think it deserved to!

Earlier this month after Cat Piano, I entered a CAPCOM/UDON Darkstalkers tribute artwork competition. I love Street Fighter (the characters & game) and have loved Morrigan & Felicia in puzzle fighter and gem fighter :D I recently got to play the Darkstalkers series and fell in love with Q-bee and the game in general. Awesome idea to make a monster version of street fighter! The deal is if you win you win a free artbook with all your favourite DS characters and you also get a place in the tribute book!

Anyway early next morning I had received an email from "Street Fighter Tribute...." in my junk; I was thinking it may be Shintokyo letting me know that my copy of Street Fighter Tribute was in store, and pressed the send to inbox button. But soon realized that I had pressed delete instead! Since it was in my junk to begin with... IT WAS GONE!! I panicked, and sent them an email but later when I checked their site, my name was in the winners list~! I was really stoked to have been chosen from all those entries and I was on a high for hours :D Today we celebrated with tomato udon for dinner :D I entered two pieces and I am not allowed to post the winning piece until the book is out. So for now I will post up my interpretation of the cute bee fairy Q-Bee <3

Hello! On the 7th I turned..... 22!!!
I received many nice messages and phone calls so thank-you!
I remember when I turned 20 I was freaking out because I wasn't a "teen" anymore. But I have decided that there is no use squirming about my age and came up with a positive solution.
Which is the "Twenty-two crab claw beam!!"!!! You do two peace signs and say "22!!" :) If anyone feels that way you should try it out. It feels liberating.
But it was a very fun day :)

AND! Cat Piano trailer is out! So here it is~~>> Until other stuff is released :D

3rd March <3 Hinamatsuri!

Hey everyone~!
Thank-you to the people who left me nice comments on my last one! I really wish everyone could had made it to the screening. I hope that it will show in Brisbane (home town to 4 people who worked on it!!) soon :D

Well in Japan on the 3rd of March is Ohinasama/Hinamatsuri! Dolls/girls festival. (Also my Dad's birthday! hehe and he's a guy :) )
My little doll set is back in Brisbane so I just made some chirashi-zushi, (means sprinkle sushi, or better translated as open sushi) to celebrate! I went all out and Ari got me some eel and I put sea urchin in it~!! (Mum and Dad sent me a package with the sea urchin and chirashi pack :) ) (Gourmet <3 ) It didn't look as pretty as the packet but it was yummy~~!!

Hello again!

So I am finished, the next project has not started yet, so I am taking this opportunity to build up my personal folio and works :) and It has been great. I feel much more relaxed and happy that I get to do whatever I want. So here's one I just finished. This one, started off as a loose sketch and then I just ended up taking it a little further. I like when the initial sort of energy just keeps going through out to the end. OK! I'll go do another one (>v<)/

The Cat Piano World Premiere Night, nya nyan!

Hi blogger land :)
Last night was the night for The world Premiere of The Cat Piano. It was a part of the Adelaide Film Festival's Made in SA screening night, where it got screened along with other short films made in South Australia. It was a really good night, we all dressed up (yay!) and finally got to kick our heels up and relax. I am confident to say, The Cat Piano stood out, being the only animation, most stylish, shortest and loudest. (^o^)/ I think the audience liked it too:) But it was interesting to see what other people are making around in Adelaide as well. Above is just some photos we took last night, with our dedicated crew members (some are missing :( ), food, Alex, food, Ari and yay & see! see! I did my hair :D I was so happy to see everyone being so nice and happy, compared with the gaunt, sleep deprived look we all had during production. (^^;;) It truly was an awesome night.

I finally felt some closure with Cat Piano last night; my first out of uni project, a year's worth of Cat P etc. But I'm excited to see what sort of opportunities it could bring and to move on to another project just as enjoyable :) To close this chapter I did a really quick sketch, now I can move on.

It has been a while! Recently I have been working full time on Cat Piano and finally, finally we are nearing the end of this project. We have a few weeks of intense animation crunch time then I will have all the time in the world. Working on this project for over a year now and finally we can see it coming together so it is all very exciting. So stay tuned <3

Last month a good friend of mine turned 21. She was the last of my friends to turn 21 so I made her this card. (It became a belated present... sorry :( ) I received a call that she received the gift in the mail today, so I decided to post it. I hope she liked it!

Spring and Poison

Thanks again for the crits and comments, these are really appreciated. I have taken this piece a bit further, although I am inclined to leave it a bit faffy :)

On another note, I tried designing a Poison Ivy. I did some sketches and then thinking about Ivy; she is really not much different to the Ninja Turtles. If she is an environ-terrorist, dehumanized by crazy chemicals she would look pretty alien. So she is supposed to look a bit Reiji meets Voldemorte. I had fun designing the ivy lace too :)

Totoro Forest - my go at it :)

Thank you for the comments and encouragement guys! It's motivating me! YAY!

Recently some off my favourite artists from Pixar have worked on some artworks for a charity exhibition called "The Totoro Forest". It was like a tribute for Miyazaki for being inspirational etc. I thought doing up an image of a foresty piece would be nice (going into Spring and all) and started faffing out this piece. It is still a work in progress but better something up than nothing at all :) I invisioned it with that dewy sort of dappled light and much more work is needed in the stairs and foliage particulary. The screen I'm working on makes all the colours really light too. so please let me know if it's too saturated etc.

I will go work on it :)

Hi!

I'm making an effort people (>_<;) and trying to keep the momentum going for these blog posts. So I thought I would post this little number up this week. I did it quite a while ago, after watching "The Life Aquatic". It was a nice quirky film but because I watched it by myself I didn't laugh as much as "The Darjeeling Limited". I just think it is a film that I would enjoy with some company. I really liked the production design which was probably what inspired me to do this piece :) Sorry it's not much! xoxo Macca

Hi everyone and it is nice to be back!!

My last post in this blog was from last year when I was still in uni! But let me assure you I have been very busy. I think I will have a hard time trying to keep regular posts but I will try to, so that I have some space for personal reflection.

Since coming down to Adelaide I have now worked on many really different projects and each one has taught me so many different things. The fact I get to work with really talented and dedicated artists is such a honor and that part really reminds me of the environment I had back in my uni years. Their commitment is so inspiring and has taught me that I still have a very long way ahead of me to mature as an artist.

Panic! is whirling in the animation studio.. Yes, less than a week until deadline, still I am updating my blog. Will we get it done? Yes I think so (If I can hurry up and start animating... -0-) *panic*

Well update for this week.

RENDERING on HD WITHOUT a RENDERFARM is just ridiculous so as a group decided to render out as SD 1024x576 which will speed up the process a little. Plus, Simon will be teaching Marisa how to line up batch renders and that will be a huge help also. (so there is no idle time)

MUSIC, we have decided that our old track although royalty free, will not work and Marisa has found us a new track we can sync the whole thing to. And our sound guy Kieran has gone off with it, so hopefully he can play around with it. *Panic*

This week Maruna has put together the our playblasts into the animatic, and although some places needs reassessing, the start in particular is flowing.

Gemma is nearly finished animating her part. So Marisa will have a helping hand soon.
Marisa has started rendering. Looking really good.
Maruna will shortly be very busy with comping.
And I just have to finish a few more scenes of animation and yay rendering. I was going to re-animate a few scenes after our encounter with Ed Hooks, but I have realised there is really no time to be doing that.*panic* *panic* Oh well, I'll just have to make that part look good.

Page dodges some invisible lights?!

Hello!

I have been working hard at some scenes lately and I thought I would like to somehow prove my point by putting up some playblasts. The "upload video" button on this blogger thing is either not working, or I just don't know how to work it. SO! I have made a youtube account~!! Yay youtube! So here it is.

In this scene Page is supposed to be dodging this "magical" light thing. I've been working on it for a couple of days now... :( ( slow animator. and thank god Gemma is a fast one!) But with everyone's "fresh eye" and advice I think it is coming along. Constructive criticism is always helpful and welcomed! (Give me more!) So thanks to anyone and everyone who helped me along the way!

NOoooo! the button is working now!!! Why?!!! I made a youtube account and everything! Oh well.
Anyway this is the early stages...

And most recent. I added an antic before she runs off and some hesitation when she looks up. I think the end could be refined more, more follow through with the arm and the run off could be fixed, but I really need to move on to the next scene!! AaaaaaaaH!!! Deadline!!

Life Drawings~!!

Life drawing this semester has been really different since we have been experimenting with different mediums. Kay has been chasing us up for our drawings so I scanned some in today. The first one is a Chinese ink painting. This is one is actually my second one, since my first go didn't go as well.

This one is my first sequence drawing for this semester...

Third sequence. I like how I laid this one out. Although the drawings are still dodge.

And lastly this is my charcoal subtraction drawing.
I'm finding it really interesting to explore different mediums but, I really think I should be going back to basics and getting that right first ^^:

Yesterday the "Brining to Life" team consisting of Gemma and I have actually started our job. Gemma is doing a wonderful job of this run she does through the hallway and it is looking good. Take a look on her blog. I on the other hand have started.... but this thing called "Runtime Error" happens every few minutes and it is a hassle. *sigh* Although there are problems, it's good to be animating!! Yay.

Alternative cinema proposal finished! This means I can really get into animating and I am glad. That is all for now!

Last Semester??!!

Hi~!
Ok I am going to try and keep a blog this semester because I failed miserably last semester (-_-;)! And this is the last semester I will be studing at QCA.
Hmm... For our third year project, after the never-ending process of rigging our one character that we cut down from six... (OMG what were we thinking?!) We have now divided up the group into two groups. These two groups are "Bringing Page to life" group, consisting of Gemma and myself (animators) and the "beautifying BG" group with of course none other than our lovely FX artist Marisa and our only 2D Major slowly being converted to the ways of 3D Marunaaaaa.
Hopefully this production line will speed thing up in terms of rendering and just getting the film done in general! (hopefully...>_<) Yay~!! GO TEAM~!! Ok this is what I have been working on for the last few weeks.... I really didn't think it would take this long :( Anyway meet Threeeeee Deeeeee Page~~~~~!!!! (She is currently undergoing a few more touch ups before shoting :) (The alpha channel for here eyelashes are missing? so please ignore) -------->>>>

PAGE is our main character for our final year project. Our project is going to be a 3D trailer but we have started off with 2D concepts.

This is a recent colour pallet for our charcter.

Ok. I am against the uni's netcheck policy. This blogging is apart of our assessment and I don't understand why we have to pay soooooooooooooo much for this.... Sucks to be a poor student.

W.I.L project.

Yay! A thumbs up from our employer for the W.I.L project!! Maruna and I worked on animating a logo for Billabong's adventure division earlier this year and they seemed to have liked it! Well it was worth animating the 7 tentacles of the octopus from the logo they gave us.
The image above is some frames that I put together.
Thanks to Micheal Calvino for giving us the opportunity and it was a really valuable experience.
I'm sure we can take on anything after the 11 limbs and endless detail and shadows coming from unknown light sources. LOL

Ok I'm not really sure what to do here. I think I am required to do a blog for my bachelor of animation course @ Griffith QCA (south bank).

We have started our third year project so I'm guessing I will just post up any concepts as we go along.

I think I will post something up once I get more info on what my purpose here is.
